CARE HOME PROJECT: Remove and replace 32 Cross Corridor FD 30’s

Gaps below the bottom of a fire door should be no larger than 8mm, or 3mm for fire and smoke doors. An inspection at Athena Care Homes found that there were gaps exceeding these measurements that needed to be remediated.

Athena Group provide comprehensive care for the less active elderly members of our community, including individuals with dementia. Our primary focus in these homes is to ensure the safety of our residents concerning the tools used in our work. We maintain a strict policy of never leaving the workplace unattended to prevent any potential contact between residents and the sharp, dangerous tools.

While facilitating the movement of both staff and residents is a top priority, we also recognise the need to safeguard the more vulnerable individuals from workplace hazards. To address this challenge, we have implemented a physical barrier that is both removable and effective. This barrier ensures a safe distance for the venerable residents while allowing our staff to move freely within the working area. Regular daily discussions with care home managers are crucial for effective communication and coordination. These talks ensure that upcoming work plans for the following days are effectively conveyed to the care home staff, keeping everyone informed about activities and specific areas of focus within the home.

PROJECT OUTCOME

Athena Care Homes now has completely safe and compliant fire doors, enabling them to keep residents safe in the event of a fire.
